High Frequency Testing to Determine Permittivity and Loss Tangent of Embedded Passive Materials

چکیده

ing dielectric permittivity and loss tangent of embedded passive materials. The measurements are made in an APC-7 coaxial configuration where the test specimen represents a load terminating an air-filled coaxial transmission line. The method is suitable for testing high dielectric constant (high-k) polymer-composite materials having nominal thickness of 1 μm to 300 μm at frequencies of 100 MHz to 12 GHz. With proper use and computation the frequency range can be extended to 18 GHz. Existing measurement methods (see Section 2) assume quasi-static conditions in the thin film specimen, whereas this test method produces meaningful results at frequencies greater than hundreds of megahertz and where high-dielectric constant, thin film materials are to be measured.

For evaluating quality of electrical insulation, it is necessary to measure the property of insulators. Dielectric constant and loss tangent (tans) are two important parameters for determining the property of insulator. The measurement of above parameters is normally based on the time- domain and frequency-domain, which is costly and time consuming. In this study a multiple-frequency binary se...

Measurements of Relative Permittivity and Dielectric Loss Tangent of Fodel Dielectric with a Split-Post Resonator

The increasing use of computer-based software packages for designing RF/microwave circuits requires very accurate data about dielectric properties of materials used in the design. This paper presents results of precise measurements of relative permittivity and loss tangent of alumina substrates and Fodel dielectric 6050 used in thick-film photoimageable technology for fabricating microwave doub...

High Frequency Loss Mechanism in Polymers Filled with Dielectric Modifiers

We analyzed the high frequency dielectric relaxation mechanism in high-k composite materials using film substrates made of low loss organic resin filled with ferroelectric ceramics and with single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT). We performed broadband permittivity measurements of high-k film substrates at frequencies of 100 Hz to about 10 GHz. In order to analyze the effect of the dielectric thic...

Measurement of Dielectric Properties at 75 - 325 GHz using a Vector Network Analyzer and Full Wave Simulator

This paper presents a fast and easy to use method to determine permittivity and loss tangent in the frequency range of 75 to 325 GHz. To obtain the permittivity and the loss tangent of the test material, the reflection and transmission S-parameters of a waveguide section filled with the test material are measured using a vector network analyzer and then compared with the simulated plots from a ...

Microwave Processing and Permittivity Measurement of Thermoplastic Composites at Elevated Temperature

The material properties of greatest importance in microwave processing of a dielectric are the complex relative permittivity ε = ε′ jε′′, and the loss tangent, tan δ = ε′′/ ε′. The real part of the permittivity, ε′, sometimes called the dielectric constant, mostly determines how much of the incident energy is reflected at the air-sample interface, and how much enters the sample. This paper show...
